Introducing the jewelry of David Lamoreux!
David is a longtime friend of mine, miner and silversmith. In fact, he and I teamed up in my youth to make jewelry together. He mined the rock. I cut it and we both made jewelry.
This particular pair has two of my blue turquoise oval cabochons and David has made them into lovely oval earrings with an attractive tribal design.
All his pieces are made from German Silver (nickel). They are hand-shaped, hand soldered and hand-stamped. The stones are genuine magnesite.
Each piece made by David is done in workshop off the grid. All his tools are hand tools, and he uses a small generator to power his saw. The rest of his compound is powered by solar power. Each piece is bezelled and set in German Silver (nickel) and then hand-stamped with handmade stamps.
I've put David's pieces in my shop now and I'm helping him sell them.
About the Artist
David is a true mountain man and a true cowboy. He lives in his self-constructed compound in Colorado at 9000ft. in the Sangre de Christo Mountain Range. He lives in a totally self-sustained house that he built by hand. He also maintains a silversmith and lapidary shop run off a small generator and solar panels. He lives with his dog, Robin, who's the sweetest Red Healer you could imagine. David has lived off the land for 60 years. He's 81 now and can outdo any 50-year-old. He knows his neck of the woods so well that during the recent fires in Colorado he stayed safe. He even went to surrounding ranches and took care of the livestock for his neighbors who had evacuated. He is truly what you call "off-the-grid" and lives happily and well that way.
Talk about eco-friendly, sustainable merchandise with no carbon footprint!

Yes, I do custom orders! Click on the Custom Order Request link on the home page or in any one of my listings. I'll let you know if I have those stones. I have LOTS of inventory but not all of it is listed so it's very possible that I may already have what you are looking for.
With any custom request, please provide exact dimensions (length, width, thickness and shape). Pictures are encouraged and welcomed as it makes the custom cutting process much easier.
Yes, all my cabochons are american-made. A majority of my stones are mined in the American West--Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, etc. I cut all my stones in my home shop here in sunny Florida.
My stones are very sturdy. They are all backed with a hard black epoxy that increases their strength and stability, but they will crack and break if dropped on a hard surface such as tile or concrete. They are very tough when it comes to setting and bezeling them but don't play catch with them ;)
Yes, I can cut different shapes than those I have listed. Please click the Custom Order Rquest link on the home page or in any listing. Not everything is cuttable although I can generally make it work. I will let you know if I can do it and then give you an estimate on the project. For totally new shapes, there WILL be an additional "lapidary design fee" of $50 on the order. Sketches, drawings or pictures are encouraged. But exact dimensions are a must.
No, I do not do silversmithing. I do no bezel, inlay or solder silver or gold. But I do know many fine silversmiths who would like to help you with your silversmithing needs. Message me and will provide you with some names.
Yes! I have a huge inventory from years of stone cutting. Not all of it is posted in my store. Often I have more than one of the cabochons you are looking for.
Since we are dealing with natural rock they will not be exactly identical in color or matrix, but I can generally get pretty close. I do however have the same shapes in many different, stones colors and sizes.
If I don't have more in stock, I can generally cut what you want but for new cuttings I require a $60 minimum order.
Just click the Custom Order Request link, explain what you want with dimensions, stone type and look and I will give you a price quote.
Yes! I can make any of my stones into a pair of earrings or pendant. All of my shaped cabochons have this as an option for an extra fee.
If you wish to have a standard cabochon (square, oval, triangle, circle, etc.) made into jewelry, you would have to click the Custom Order Request button in the listing. I would then be able to give you a price quote.
Pair of earrings: Additional $25 (2 stones drilled with sterling silver eyehook, bail and french ear wires)
Pendant: Additional $15 (1 stone drilled with sterling silver eyehook and bail)
